Over the course of our Kitunlocker campaign, we’ve linked up with some amazing clubs that make a big difference to their members and their communities. But we’ve yet to work with a running club.
Running has boomed in popularity in recent years, particularly since the pandemic. It’s basically free, you can do it on your own or as part of a group, and most importantly it’s really good for your physical and mental health.
We’ve connected with 6+1 The Movers. A Sheffield based running club who have built a very strong community, bringing together a mix of people from various backgrounds who have a common goal. Particularly, building friendships and improving their wellbeing with a Saturday morning 5k run.
6+1 The Movers was founded by Kwabs, Naps & Nikita who came together to create something that they thought was missing from the running space. A running club that brings a family culture and promotes diversity, inclusion, togetherness and wellbeing.
They bring together 40+ members each weekend at various locations around Sheffield to participate in 5k runs around the city.
Coinciding with Black History Month, we’ve given them a helping hand with their kit as part of our Kitunlocker campaign. Working closely with them to create something that fully celebrates their identity and what they represent.
6+1 The Movers wanted to incorporate Pan-African colours into their new kit: green, yellow, red and black. Green represents the land, hope, growth, and natural fertility. Red represents the blood that unites all people of Black African ancestry, and shed for liberation. Yellow represents the resource-rich regions, as well as peace and harmony between various ethnic and religious groups. Black represents the skin color of Black people and the strength of their community. To elevate the shirt and make it even more unique, we also added a custom black silicone Nike Swoosh.
We met up with the Kwabs, Naps, Nikita, Ella & Devon at local barber shop (shout out Top Chopper Hair Studios) to film and capture the shirt reveal. Check it out ⬇️
